Welcome to Tower Grove South

St. Louis's most diverse neighborhood. Tower Grove Park at your doorstep. A dining scene that belongs in a much larger city.

Niche ranks Tower Grove South as the most diverse neighborhood in St. Louis, and honestly, you feel it the moment you turn onto South Grand. One local account claims the boulevard represents more ethnic cuisines than Epcot. We believe it. Vietnamese immigrants began opening restaurants and businesses here in the 1970s and quietly turned a struggling commercial corridor into one of the best dining streets in the city. It's been building ever since. If you haven't eaten your way down South Grand yet, put it on the list. Actually, move it to the top.

Tower Grove Park sits just to the north and it is exactly what a neighborhood park should be. Victorian pavilions on the National Historic Register, a farmers market, Food Truck Fridays, the Festival of Nations every August, outdoor yoga on Saturday mornings. People don't drive past this park on their way somewhere else. They drive to it on purpose, all week long. At 287 acres, it has enough room for everyone and somehow still feels like it belongs to the neighborhood.

The housing stock runs from elegant Victorian single-family homes near the park to brick bungalows, four-family flats, and apartment buildings as you move south. Most went up around the turn of the century, following the streetcar lines that brought residential development to the area. That range of housing types means a real range of price points, which is a big part of why Tower Grove South keeps drawing first-time buyers, growing families, and long-term residents who have watched this neighborhood become exactly what it is. None of them are in a hurry to leave.

What It’s Like to Live in Tower Grove South

South Grand Boulevard is the kind of street that makes you want to cancel your dinner reservation so you can just walk it and see what looks good. Thai, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Middle Eastern, American — the cuisines change every few storefronts and every one of them has regulars who will argue it's the best on the block. They're probably all right. A few blocks west, Morganford Road has its own thing going: Civil Life Brewery, Alpha Brewing Company, Hartford Coffee with its patio and play area at the corner of Hartford and Roger Place, and Local Harvest for groceries that actually taste like groceries. Saturday afternoons on Morganford have a way of lasting longer than you planned. That's a compliment.

Tower Grove Park is right there, and we mean right there. Farmers market on Saturdays. Food Truck Fridays all season. Festival of Nations every August. Outdoor yoga. Historic Victorian pavilions available for private events. This is not a park that sits empty between holidays. It's the neighborhood's living room and people treat it that way every single week. The Missouri Botanical Garden is minutes away by bike or car, which means on any given weekend you have more green space options than you'll know what to do with.

And then there's the location. Barnes Hospital, Washington University, Saint Louis University, and downtown St. Louis are all under 15 minutes via Interstate 44 and South Kingshighway. The Riverfront Times named Tower Grove South the best place to live in the city. Based on everything that's actually here, it's genuinely hard to argue with that. We've tried. We can't.
